Restaurant Story

Hello (:

The hols are about to end and we are feeling pretty good because we were away for about 2 weeks. It's been a while since we spent such a long time away from Singapore and more importantly, work. So it's not wrong to say that we're in much better shape compared to before the hols (:

Before the hols end, I think I'd like to share about our elaborate and interesting lunch at Restaurant Story. I especially liked that the different components of the dishes were thoughtfully put together, and that there is some element of surprise when it comes to how certain dishes were served and/or how certain dishes tasted like. It definitely is one of the most memorable meals that we've had thus far (:

We'd 2 'full story' lunches - one pescetarian and the other normal. Most of our dishes were similar but there were some variants when it comes to serving meat. I really appreciated the fact that the staff took effort to create a pescetarian menu to accommodate my dietary preference! (:

Alright that's all for now (: Have a great weekend everyone!

Chez West

Hello (:

We recently went to Chez West with our good friends to try their dinner set menu and it superseded our expectations on all fronts! (: We particularly liked that the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and that the pace of the meal was comfortable. The pre/post-meal tour of the campus was also a nice touch!

Here are photos of the dishes that were served that night:

We might drop by again in the near future to try other cuisines/ dishes! (: Happy holidays, everyone!

The Coffee Academics

Hello (:

We've survived the marking season and have been taking a short break from rigorous work before we jump back in to planning for next semester (:

One place that fed us well and served us surprisingly good coffee to help us pull through the marking period is The Coffee Academics. Truth be told, our first visit to The Coffee Academics was not planned: we happened to be walking around Scotts Square, looking for desserts, and chanced upon this establishment! We had coffee and pancakes the first time we visited and their coffee was so good that it got us hooked! Heh

We've dropped by on two other occasions cos we simply wanted to try the other coffees that they have on their menu as well as to give their savoury main dishes and other desserts a go as well.

Here are some pics of our food & drinks:

I'm pretty sure we'll visit this place again in the near future, especially when we want strong coffee and an overwhelmingly large serving of pancakes! Heheh (:

Happy weekend, everyone! (:

Fynn's Cafe

Hello (:

I feel really bad whenever I come back to visit this space because I'm always reminded of how much I've neglected it this year! =| I guess it is inevitable since I post mostly on instagram and this space only gets updated when I'm free or when I want to remember a particular meal for certain reasons.

Last weekend, we went to Fynn's after reading much about the multiple rave reviews. Our opinion is that the food was slightly above average but it wasn't mindblowingly awesome! In fact, what we both liked most was their salad because the dressing and the ingredients worked exceedingly well together! (:

I was slightly taken aback by how simple their pancake stack was, cos I had expected more fruits and a 'more special' kind of fruit compote but I guess they might have wanted to keep things simple and to just allow us to enjoy the 5 pieces of pancake with yummy coconut butter and maple syrup! (:

I think I might go back for lunch/ dinner to give it another go to see if my liking for this place will increase after trying other dishes! (:

Have a good Friday and weekend! (:

The Populus

Hello (:

It's been too long since I last updated this space simply cos I've been waay too busy! So much so that sometimes all I wanna do after work is to eat a big, decadent pancake, which I did one night at The Populus. I'm not kidding when I said I managed to eat the ENTIRE pancake on my own =P I feel super good when I eat such a pancake cos 1) it tastes nice 2) I feel like I deserve it 3) I need to stop the hunger pangs but I sometimes regret a teensy bit after because I get too full! Hahaha

Shall hang in there for 2 more months before the next breather (: For now, we shall cherish the little breaks in between the madness and eat more food to stay happy and sane (:

Happy long weekend! (:

Salt Tapas and Bar

Hello (:

It's almost the end of a superbly long week, and I suspect this is the first of many weeks of its kind. January has spoilt us rotten partly cos of the festive break(s) so we've to adjust and get back into the rhythm of school all over again.

Thankfully, weekends are filled with both rest and exploration of some kind - be it visiting a new place or trying something new for the first time. Last weekend, we visited Salt Tapas and Bar and we were impressed with their interesting dishes (: It was also the first time that I've eaten barramundi since my previous food poisoning incident (caused by some barramundi I suspect) and I'm super grateful that I felt alright after that (:

Really can't wait for Friday evening to come because that's when the weekend arrives and we can get to catch up on rest again (:

Have a good rest of the week!

Relish

Hello (:

The first month of the year just zoomed by and just as we've more or less settled into our new routine, a long break greets us and beckons for us to take a breather from a very hectic month! (: We really are grateful for this short respite -- to catch up with family and friends, to eat good food and of course, to rest (:

I definitely am looking forward to a weekend of feasting on other types of food other than Chinese food, and more importantly, spending time with people whom I consider family! Happy Chinese New Year everyone! (:

Oriole

Hello (:

We thought it would be good to start 2017 on the right foot (literally) so we took a walk to & at Bukit Batok Nature Reserve before heading to Oriole for a wonderful lunch! The lighting was almost non-existent at Oriole so we had to use our flashlight, which explains why the lighting in this photo is very harsh.

In 2017, we will strive to do what we can to make it a much better year compared to 2016 (: #goodvibesonly

Happy New Year! (:

Food Trail from Hillview to Coronation

Hello (:

We decided to spend this December holiday in Singapore because we wanted to explore our new neighbourhood a little as well as to figure out how best to do things at home so that we will be all set and ready for 2017 when it comes! (:

So apart from doing lots of cleaning and experimenting in the kitchen, we have also been visiting the nearby places for quick meals. One of the new places that we've been to is called Klang Bak Kut Teh and it serves the dry kind of bak kut teh (see top right of pic below). LC likes it and we introduced Klang to our friend and he liked it too so I am guessing it's not too bad a place to go to if you want to give the dry BKT a try (:

We are also fortunate enough to live not too far from Spruce, so we can always head there (on a non-rainy day) for some western/ brunchy grub (: I personally like it when it's less crowded cos it won't be too noisy, so early brunches on weekends or brunches on weekdays are preferred.

Once or twice a month, we have this insatiable craving for good indian food and we always head to Karu's at Sime Darby (next to KAP MRT station) to satisfy our need. Our family has been eating at Karu's for at least a decade and their food never disappoints. You really have to try it! (:

On not-so-good days, I always go to Atlas for my favourite pancakes! I know some/ most people find their signature pancakes a little too sweet but I absolutely LOVE it, especially on a bad day. It really is my antidote and it makes me feel a teensy bit better (: On other average days or on days when I don't mind overpaying for cafe food, I go to Atlas to try the other savoury items on their menu:

Oh and we recently made an unexpected discovery! Lana Cake Shop actually sells astoundingly good carrot cake! It can possibly rival Cedele's in my humble opinion. You should try it to judge for yourself (:

Alright that's all for our food adventures thus far (: We'll continue to update this space when we are free but for now, we'll try to indulge in other activities (e.g. watching tv series and movies) that we do not have time for during school term. Have a good week ahead, everyone! (:
