Hello!
I've been terrible ill-disciplined when it comes to updating this space because I honestly don't have as much time as I did in the past to sit and blog. Another reason is also cos I update my instagram account more often to commemorate how each day is spent/ the highlight of each day (I try to post everyday) so this space becomes a back-up storage space of sorts (:
Nonetheless, I think it's still good for updates on the new and yummy food that we've been trying, and this was one of them! We had dinner with our two good friends to New Ubin Seafood not too long ago and I think it can possibly rival the Jumbo experience! For the longest time, whenever I think of seafood, I always think of Jumbo Seafood Restaurant but I think New Ubin is its close rival! (:
Love the variety, love the freshness of the food, and thoroughly enjoyed the company! (: We'll definitely be back to try other dishes! (:
Happy weekend (:

Tiong Bahru Market
Hello (:
We didn't travel this holiday so we made it a point to go to places that we seldom go to during term time and one such place is Tiong Bahru Market, a hawker place that I used to frequent a little more when I was a kid! (:
The place has cleaned up quite a bit and some stalls have changed hands but I think the general feel is the same (: We have been there twice and both times I chose to queue for noodles because I'm more of a noodles than rice person (:
The famous lor mee has a shark nuggets option so if you want the full experience, you can opt for the shark nuggets! =P The sauce is not too viscous nor is it too salty and it really complements the noodles well (: I can see why people think that this ranks as one of the best lor mees around.
The fishball noodles were unexpectedly good partly cos the noodles were slightly al dente and also cos the sauce was very tasty! (: I would have this again any day but I don't think I'll be willing to queue for so long for this again! (We went around 1ish pm and the queue for this bowl of noodles was 20-25min long)
All in all, I think Tiong Bahru Market is worth repeated visits and we can't wait to get back to try other dishes! (:
Enjoy what's left of the holidays and Happy New Year in advance! (:

Food Trail from Hillview to Coronation
Hello (:
We decided to spend this December holiday in Singapore because we wanted to explore our new neighbourhood a little as well as to figure out how best to do things at home so that we will be all set and ready for 2017 when it comes! (:
So apart from doing lots of cleaning and experimenting in the kitchen, we have also been visiting the nearby places for quick meals. One of the new places that we've been to is called Klang Bak Kut Teh and it serves the dry kind of bak kut teh (see top right of pic below). LC likes it and we introduced Klang to our friend and he liked it too so I am guessing it's not too bad a place to go to if you want to give the dry BKT a try (:
We are also fortunate enough to live not too far from Spruce, so we can always head there (on a non-rainy day) for some western/ brunchy grub (: I personally like it when it's less crowded cos it won't be too noisy, so early brunches on weekends or brunches on weekdays are preferred.
Once or twice a month, we have this insatiable craving for good indian food and we always head to Karu's at Sime Darby (next to KAP MRT station) to satisfy our need. Our family has been eating at Karu's for at least a decade and their food never disappoints. You really have to try it! (:
On not-so-good days, I always go to Atlas for my favourite pancakes! I know some/ most people find their signature pancakes a little too sweet but I absolutely LOVE it, especially on a bad day. It really is my antidote and it makes me feel a teensy bit better (: On other average days or on days when I don't mind overpaying for cafe food, I go to Atlas to try the other savoury items on their menu:
Alright that's all for our food adventures thus far (: We'll continue to update this space when we are free but for now, we'll try to indulge in other activities (e.g. watching tv series and movies) that we do not have time for during school term. Have a good week ahead, everyone! (:

Oh and we recently made an unexpected discovery! Lana Cake Shop actually sells astoundingly good carrot cake! It can possibly rival Cedele's in my humble opinion. You should try it to judge for yourself (:

Rong Fu Ji Seafood Steam Pot
Hello (:
My good friends and I went to Rong Fu Ji for dinner last night and it was a pretty fascinating experience, partly because it was our first time trying out a steam pot meal. Needless to say, we weren't prepared for the facial-like dining experience! I was prepared to be marinated by the smell of the food (you know, like what happens when we have Korean BBQ) but thankfully, this wasn't that bad! (:
Food wise, the seafood was fresh though I thought the portions were quite small. The main gripe that the 3 of us had was that the porridge could only be eaten at the end of the meal rather than together with the rest of the food, meaning we had to finish all the food on the upper layer before we could access the porridge! We asked the waitress why this was the case and she said that the porridge takes a longer while to cook, so oh well! Disappointingly, we had expected the porridge to be more flavourful but it was kinda bland though the texture was alright.
Here're some photos of the 2 pax set that we ordered, which costs $78! As you can see, the quantity of food is definitely not enough for 3 so we ordered extra beef and an extra vegetable platter!
We were nicely filled after we had eaten our extra servings of food and promptly retreated to Coffee Bean for dessert. Great times (:
Have a good rest of the week!

Chong Qing Grilled Fish
Hello (:
The first week of school went by quite quickly mainly because there was a lot to do and I'm just thankful that the weekend is here so that I can catch up on some rest (:
I think the mantra for this term will be Dory's famous mantra: just keep swimming. I have no doubt that marking season will be demanding as usual and there will be lots of other things to deal with but I am pretty sure that we'll pull through just fine!
A few good friends and I have already decided that we'll celebrate end of marking season at Chong Qing Grilled Fish, where they'll indulge in the crazily spicy mala fish while I stay with safer options like the one below!
I like that the grilled fish served at Chong Qing Grilled Fish is fresh and it doesn't at all have any fishy smell. The 'soup base'/ 'gravy' is also pretty rich tasting and complements the fish well.
Can't wait to see this place again cos it means that marking season is over! Haha
Alright have a good weekend everyone! (:

Jumbo Seafood
Hello (:
I realised that we usually don't get a real break from school till the second week of June hols or so, but this doesn't deter us from doing something a little special or a little out of the ordinary to welcome the hols! This time, it was to indulge in a giant wok of chili crabs, a dish which we have yet to eat together for over a year!
When it comes to crabs, I tend to want to go to Jumbo cos my first memories of eating crabs were at Jumbo and I also like that they're consistently good, so off we went to Jumbo yesterday for a feast!
Thankfully, we went for a walk around the MBS area after our meal and it helped to keep the crab coma away (somehow my body shuts down if I ingest too much crab meat so I guess I need to moderate).
Superb way to kickstart the hols! (:

Joo Seng Teochew Porridge
Hello everyone (:
I've been frequenting the Cheong Chin Nam stretch of eateries more often of late because of my very odd eating hours =P
I think I'm starting to like eating Teochew porridge because I get to select different dishes each time and I especially like the fermented soya bean cos it is super salty!

Sunny Choice
Hello (:
Marking season is almost over and normal life will resume but before that happens, let me share THE BEST Thunder Tea Rice that I've had in my life to date - Sunny Choice's Thunder Tea Rice! (:
We first tried it a month ago and we liked it so much that we went back for more a few days ago! It's really yummy and doesn't taste like the usual thunder tea rice that is served at food courts.
Understandably, it's an acquired taste so if you don't like it, you might never like this =P
There are many other dishes at Sunny Choice though so you can check out the menu before going down (:
Have a great week ahead! (:

Noodle Place Restaurant
Hello (:
Sorry for the lack of updates! I've been pretty busy in school and whenever the weekend comes around, I find myself wanting to rest more which inevitably means that I'll be too lazy to try out new places to eat at but this weekend's a break from the usual pattern because we not only tried Hotel Jen's seafood buffet last night (it was only so-so), we also dropped by Noodle Place Restaurant at Somerset 313! (:
We have walked past this restaurant before but the queues were always long but we were in luck today! (: Got ourselves a seat near the entrance and started choosing what to eat.
We settled for their famous Shrimp Wanton Noodles in Soup (sorry the wantons got hidden by the noodles) and their abalone noodles!
I really liked the texture of the noodles cos it has a springy quality, much like the nicer noodles I had in Hong Kong so I really think that it's worth having noodles here (: The other ingredients that came with the noodles (i.e. the shrimp wantons and the abalone) were slightly meagre in portion but I guess it's cos of price constraints! I felt like I could eat 1.5portions on my own! Maybe we should have ordered their famous congee to try!
We'll definitely be back for more and we'll try other dishes when we return in the near future! (:

Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice
Hello (:
During crazy periods like pre-Christmas and pre-CNY, I especially appreciate having eateries near my place because we don't have to battle with the madness before we get our food. We have been going to Boon Tong Kee quite a bit this year but we decided to give Five Star a try, and it didn't disappoint! (:
Guess we have yet another place to eat at when we get hungry and/or too lazy to travel to town for grub.
Can't wait to have Christmas dinner later! The funny man is cooking so we won't have to leave the house, which is great! Merry Christmas everyone! (:

In Between Trips
Hello (:
I'll be leaving for my final school trip early tomorrow morning, and I realised I haven't been very diligent with posting on this page, so I've decided to post a few photos of the yummy food that I've had in the past week since I came back from the previous trip (: I really can't wait for the year to end so that I can rest, recuperate and prep for the next year! (: On a random side note, I'm really thankful for the good people in my life, they always help to keep the cup (more than a little) half full (:
Bye

Koon Bak Kut Teh
Hello (:
Since our first random visit to the Bak Kut Teh cafe at West Gate this year, we have been having fleeting Bak Kut Teh cravings (or at least craving for some kickass soup) and today was one of those days. Frankly, we weren't expecting to find a gem like Koon Bak Kut Teh near our place and were all ready to have dinner at Boon Tong Kee but luck was on our side and we managed to get our fill of very yummy and peppery soup! (: For all the items below plus two cups of milk tea and two bowls of rice, we only paid $29.80, which is very affordable considering the fact that we get refillable soup and that the portions of dishes were decent. We are pleased as punch and I'm sure we will be trotting back to Koon's more often now that we know it's pretty near our place (:

Till the next time! =P

Dates with Friends
Hello (:
I've most been going back to the same places for meals partly because the food served gives me simple joy and comfort (: So here are some snapshots of the food that I've been eating recently, most of which I've posted on instagram! (:
TGIF! (: Back to school! (:

Date night at Chili's rocks
And we tried Coca Steamboat at Taka - it was not bad (:
Timbre at Substation with close friends (: The live music was nice.
We really love going to Vegan Burg. Thank goodness for an outlet near our place.
P.S. Cafe never fails to satisfy either.
And Brotzeit! I still miss the pancakes at Paulaners but I think the food at Brotzeit is pretty good (:
TGIF! (: Back to school! (:

Taste Paradise
Hello (:
I've been consciously making the choice to spend time with people who matter these few days because I hardly ever have time during term time to meet up with people and catch up with them so these few days have been filled with social activities. Tomorrow will be siblings-day and I suspect we'll end up slouching in front of the teevee, eating pizza while having a Running Man marathon! Heh. It'll be a great way to end the long weekend (:
Am going to blog about my recent trip to Taste Paradise, which was only so-so because the usual steamed dimsums (e.g. the har gaos and the xiao long baos) were shockingly bad =( The skin of the dimsums stuck to the paper that lined the container that they came in so the dimsums' skin broke even before we could eat them. Ah well. Thankfully the rest of the dishes weren't so bad so on the whole, the experience was not too bad (:
Now for some photos:
All in all, I think there are hits and misses so you can take your chance when you dine at Taste Paradise (:
Alright that's all for now (: Have a restful Vesak Day! (:

Now for some photos:
Refillable Chrysanthemum Tea ($3.80 per pax)
Complimentary pickles
Wasabi Century Egg Cold Tofu ($8.80) - this was simple and nice (:
Fried Pumpkin Pastry ($4.20)
Deep fried prawn and mango rolls with mayo inside ($5.60) - this was very yummy! (:
Steamed Chicken Feet ($4.20)
Fried tofu and anchovies ($8.80)
Xiao Long Baos ($4.80) - disappointing
Har Gaos ($5.80) - equally disappointing
Steamed rice rolls with scallops ($6.20)
Steamed custard bun ($5.80) - always a favourite of mine (:
All in all, I think there are hits and misses so you can take your chance when you dine at Taste Paradise (:
Alright that's all for now (: Have a restful Vesak Day! (:

Peach Blossoms
Hello! (:
I seldom have Chinese food when I go out but when I do, I usually have dimsum or something that is simple (i.e. a one-dish meal like fried rice or noodles) so that I won't have to face the pressure of having to finish so many dishes (since in my opinion, Chinese meals tend to be about ordering a variety of dishes to share).
Last weekend was out of the ordinary though because I had nothing but Chinese food all weekend! It was surprisingly good and I think I ought to try adding Chinese cuisine into my food choices more often from now on (:
We started off our Chinesey weekend by visiting Peach Blossoms for lunch, and the experience was very satisfying (: The restaurant is quite small but it is quite quiet so we managed to get some peace during our meal.
Almond Fish Maw Soup ($20). This was stunningly good! I saw this on their 'recommended dishes' list and thought to give it a try and I'm thankful I did! It's probably one of the most interesting soups I've tasted and it is worth going back there for more! I must admit though it was quite disorienting to taste salty soup instead of the usual sweet soup mainly because I think I have been accustomed to associate almond-ish soup base with the almond-cream dessert, but I got used to it after a while.
Mango Prawn Rolls ($6.20). This was good too (: I think it's quite a standard dish at most dimsum places.
Har Gao ($6.80). Nothing to shout about too, pretty normal.
Crystal Dumpling filled with Truffle Mushrooms ($11.80). I liked this dish a lot because each dumpling was stuffed with mushrooms! (: I love mushrooms! The truffle smell was also strong and the dumplings had a very rich taste and it was surprisingly filling. A must try! (:
Steamed custard buns ($6.80). I wasn't impressed with the custard buns because the custard wasn't very well-mixed and there was oil (?) floating above the custard when we pulled the buns open.
Scallop Rolls (6.80). These were good! There was a blend of different textures and flavours so I liked this dish a lot.
The waitress recommended two popular desserts and we went ahead with her recommendations:
Avocado Puree with Chocolate Ice-cream ($14). The combination was great as the flavours complemented each other (: I would never expect chocolate icecream to go well with avocado puree but this dish proved me wrong (: Definitely worth having again!
I am really thankful for good food and great company (: These are the things that I look forward to during the weekend! (: Alright, have a great Sunday! (:

Caramelised cashew nuts ($3). We were starving when we arrived so these nuts were a lifesaver (: I generally like cashew nuts so I was happy to see them on the table!
Mango Prawn Rolls ($6.20). This was good too (: I think it's quite a standard dish at most dimsum places.

Mango Sago ($14). This was also interesting because instead of the usual mango ice-cream, they chose to use lime sorbet (: Gives a twist and an added zinginess to the entire dessert! (:
I am really thankful for good food and great company (: These are the things that I look forward to during the weekend! (: Alright, have a great Sunday! (:
