Shallots

Hello! (:

Things are fast changing where I am, in almost every aspect of my life, and sometimes I find myself wondering what the road ahead will be like but the conclusion after talking about things with people who matter usually is that I just need to continue whatever I've been doing for a while now - work hard, be open to changes, learn and adapt quickly, and to stay true to oneself.

I decided to do a post on Shallots because it is tangentially related to change, or rather, how losing something good might not be totally bad. What happened was that one of the staff who used to work at Chums, which was a cafe near my place but closed down, spotted us when we were dining in another restaurant at Marina Square and invited us to visit Shallots when we can. (I suspect the reason he could recognise us is because we were such regular customers at Chums!) We thought that it was a nice gesture so we decided to pop by when we were in that area again but he wasn't there when we visited so we didn't get to say hi, but it's alright (:

We had the set lunch that day which came with a main course and all-you-can-eat appetizer bar! The prices of set lunches range from $16.80 to $19.80, which we feel is reasonable because the food is good and the appetizer bar will definitely fill you up if you help yourself to most things there.

Here are some photos taken of our appetizers:

Our main courses:

Baked Pacific Fish Fillet with Herbal Lemon Crust (this set lunch costs $17.80)

Grilled Rib-eye Steak with Red Wine Sauce and Fries (this set lunch costs $19.80)

Shallots is a cosy restaurant located at a corner of Marina Square (near Lady M) and it usually isn't too crowded, so I think it's a great place for a slow meal and good conversation (: I would definitely revisit it in the near future!

Alright (: Have a good Sunday! (:

Häagen-Dazs

Yay to a much-needed mid-week break! Let's celebrate with some ice-cream! =P

Personally, I feel that Häagen-Dazs is over-priced but their ice-cream is great! (: I like that it's always consistently good so on days when I feel like splurging a little, I treat myself to some Häagen-Dazs (:

Shall take it slow tonight and look forward to a great Wednesday tomorrow (:

Greenhouse at the Ritz

Hello (:

I'm finally well enough to eat as usual! (: However, I'll ease my body into the regular routine and not be overly ambitious because I don't wish to have a "relapse", especially since I'm not 100% well yet! What happened was that I fell very ill on Monday and remained in a state of limbo for the next few days. Actually, I was pretty much okay from Thursday onwards but I waited till yesterday to be sure that I was alright! Then we went to our favourite place to have my first proper dessert since Monday! Heh.

Feeling better means I can finally look at food photos without feeling queasy, hence I'm going to clear my backlog from the long weekend of feasting, before I fell ill! Haha I'm so thankful I only fall ill once or at most twice a year, so I am generally dandy all year round (:

Here are some photos taken at the Greenhouse, where we went for a friend's birthday celebration! I took the photos hurriedly because all of us were eager to eat so I missed quite a few spots (e.g. the noodle station and the roasted meat section) and some photos were badly taken but it doesn't matter (:

Alright! Shall look forward to the great day ahead! (: Have a good weekend everyone! (:

Fosters Restaurant

Hello (:

I realised that there are a few 'safe' places that we tend to return to whenever it comes to certain types of food and Fosters is our choice for steak. He really loves the steak at Fosters because regardless of whichever that he chooses, it always turns out to be satisfying (:

On our last trip there, we forgot that there was set lunch available so we went ahead to order our ala carte dishes, but the extra money spent proved to be worth it because our food were so yummy and we were stuffed by the end of the meal!

Here're the photos of the dishes we had:

Cheesy Fries ($6.50)

Carpetbag Steak ($39), which is quite cool because it's a piece of tenderloin stuffed with fresh oysters! I don't really know how they managed to squeeze the oysters in there but the dissection of this piece of meat showed that you need some skill to do that beautifully!

My Mushroom & Asparagus Linguini ($22),  which is basically linguini sautéed in aglio olio style served with so many juicy mushrooms! Gosh I was stunned when I saw my food because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish all these cute mushrooms. Thankfully I had some help so it was alright =P

Affogato ($7.50) for dessert because we too full to have a proper dessert! (: This was surprisingly yummy and the alcohol taste wasn't too strong so I could have more of the ice-cream! Yum!

Alright enjoy the great weather and have a good Sunday! (:

Mid-week Reprieve at Westgate: more Skinny Pizza and Gelato

Hello (:

I have been frequenting Westgate a lot more in the second half of this year as I somewhat prefer it to Clementi Mall. I think the reasons are that it is one of the nearest malls to my place and that the mall has more to offer than Clementi mall. I tend to have late dinners and it makes finding real food difficult because the places around my area close around/by 8pm, so this means that I've no choice but to go to go to one of the malls to get food as well as to buy breakfast for the next day (:

These are just some pictures taken during my recent trip to Westgate (: I think I will remember this dinner date with my sister because we spoke about plans that will probably affect our lives in the short (and perhaps, long) run and I think we are somewhat aligned in terms of what to expect and what we can/ should do from here on. Indeed, food brings comfort and, when taken with good company, is nothing short of awesome. (:

Have a great rest of the week (:
